My small dog (16lbs) ate a large jumbone. Will she be okay?

I didn't notice that I had bought a wrong size of jumbone made by pedigree (I wasn't aware they had sizes) untill I noticed that she had eaten over half. I've been reading horrible and scary reviews online. Will she be okay? She is a small yorkie/schnauzer mix that is about 16-18lbs. The bone was made for 45lbs+ dogs.

I've looked into it and the claims about them making dogs very sick seem to be false (per Snopes). Unless your dog has a really sensitive stomach, she shouldn't have any big problems. Due to Jumbones being treats, and "richer" than a dog's regular food, a large amount may cause stomach or intestinal upset. Watch your dog for vomiting and/or diarrhea, and if either one lasts more than part of the day, she may need to be seen by a vet and be given medication to settle her GI tract. Also be on the lookout for her to act "blah" and lethargic.

But most likely she will be just fine.

My concern would be if she chewed it or swallowed it whole. If she chewed it, she should be fine. She may have an upset stomach from eating so much. However, if she swallowed it whole or a large portion, it could get lodged in her esophagus, stomach, or intestines. Vomitting, diarrhea, blood in stool, and not acting well would be signs to watch out for.

Greenies and rawhides are the worst for blockage. Dogs tend to take a few chews and then swallow, especially if there is competition around. I used to give my Boston Terrier a small Greenie daily until he got one lodged in his stomach. He eventually was able to pass it and was okay, but not until after Xrays, blood work, urinalysis....and a 2 week paycheck.
