What is the general rate per hour the sitter would be paid?

For income purposes, I would like to know how much a sitter gets paid per hour or does it go by the hours put in etc?

I assume you are thinking about becoming a sitter. Rates vary widely and every sitter sets his/her own rates and determines the types of services offerred, plus the number of animals cared for concurrently. Some services like boarding and housesitting are for a 24-hour period. Other rates, like drop-in visits or walking are for 30 minutes each. Daycare is exactly what it states: a dog is dropped off at set time in the morning and then picked up by a certain time; each sitter would establish the hours of operation.

From the proceeds of all of the above, Rover then takes 20% for all new sitters. If you calculate the "hourly" rate for boarding, house sitting or daycare, you'd be very depressed.

right... I get a little over a buck an hour... but if you subtract sleep and other such errands and out of the house stuff, I clear about $2 per hour! WHOOPIE!!!! since I only take 1 client at a time

Sitters have the ability to set their own rate. Depending on which services they offer, this could be by night, for daycare, or a 30 minute walk or drop-in visit. The rates tend to vary by location and each sitter may have a different rate, though there should be a general range in the location where you live. Since sitters can also choose their schedule or how many pets they are willing and able to care for at a time, there is not necessarily a stable rate of income. Also, a sitter is only paid following a booked stay, not on a regular continuous basis. If you are on a budget, your best bet would be to do a search in your area and find a sitter who offers services in the lower range with good reviews. These may be newer sitters or someone who does not depend on sitting as their full-time income, but can still provide quality service.
