Advice on how to safely transport dogs of all different sizes?

Does anyone have any tips and tricks on how to transport clients dogs? I drive a minivan, and can take out or put in all of the seats. I'm worried about having the dogs loose in the back, which is definitely unsafe if I were to get into an accident. I am also apprehensive about buying a travel crate, as I am anticipating lots of different shapes and sizes of dog.

Any advice?

Always keep dogs contained in a vehicle by transporting them in a dog crate, or by attaching a harness to a seat belt tether.

Thanks Jessica, I think I'll head out, buy a seat belt tether, and keep the back seats in the van.

When I had a dog and would transport him in my car, I got a harness that hooks into the seat belt. It gave him a little room to move around in but held him in case of an accident. Do not let the dogs just roam around free in back, please.

Yes I'm sure that read wrong... I was never planning on it! Just wanted to get a feel for some of the other options before picking any dogs up. Thank you!
