Kennel Trained only?

Do you feel its important to clarify you only take crate trained dogs? I work from home so having dogs bark because they're confined is simply not an option. I've also had dogs cause hundreds in damages. However do you think that really hurts the bookings you could potentially get? I say "from time to time I do run errands so it's important for your dog to be comfortable being kenneled for up to 4 hours". Or is this something that you highlight in your messages and let it hurt your stats that way because unable to book?

I think your phrasing of "from time to time I do run errands so it's important for your dog to be comfortable being kenneled for up to 4 hours" is perfect to include in your profile, and also highlight again in the initial message with the owner in case they missed it or didn't read that part.

Do you kennel dogs the entire time you're working from home (with potty breaks every few hours?) or if it's a well behaved dog, will it be able to hang out in the room you're working in un-crated? I think if you always crate dogs while you work (assuming you work every day), that is an important detail to include as saying 'from time to time' is misleading. But if it's only when you have to go to leave the house for a few hours, or have an important call and can't be disturbed for a short period, your phrasing is fine!

Yup! Just for a few hours. I used to tell people I work from home and thats why their dog needed to be quiet. However that attracted dogs with separation anxiety! I have it noted that needs to be crate trained, but sometimes people skip that

Hey Serina,

As an independent contractor you need to run your business and home as you see fit and feel comfortable with. Many sitters only accept crate trained dogs. Can it hurt your rankings, yes it can, but what is most important to you? I would go with peace of mind and safety of your home over a few lost bookings and a slip in rank. Listing your preferences in your profile makes good sense, though we know not all clients read all the details before contacting us.

There is also a way to add "Crate-trained" to your Dog Preferences on your Profile. Go to Dashboard>Update Profile>Services & Rates>Dog Preferences>then under Dog Boarding click +I'd like to add more preferences for this service. At the very bottom you can specify crate-trained or not.
