Allowing others to pick up dogs for the owner?

The dog's owner is asking if their adult child can pick up their dog from me. Do you guys allow this or require the owner to pick up themselves?

I'd be fine with an adult (family member or friend) picking up the dog, so long as they gave me the person's name in advance.

They usually do this to avoid additional charges. It isn't an issue with me. One customer has done this when they were coming home late and their son would pick up the dog and take him to his parents' home. The dog could never stay with the son because his wife was allergic. Fortunately they all live nearby. If you are worried about total strangers taking the dog, look to the dog, who will recognize family members.

Add: I've also had a nanny pick up the dog several times.

I've had this happen quite a few times for a variety of reasons. I usually ask if it's possible for the owner to send me a photo of the person picking up the dog (many just volunteer that). But if that's not possible, what was said about the dog knowing the person picking him/her up is definitely a second option. I always make sure to ask a question or two - what is the persons name or the dog's name, or something to indicate it's the same person. I think the odds of a stranger picking up a dog and knowing its name when the owner let me know someone was coming would be unlikely.

I agree with Deb as there isn't an issue
