Is it odd to get a meet and greet request at an owner's home due to wanting to go over house alarm details, etc.?

I was requested for a night stay originally but then she said she just needed me to stay during the day on a Saturday morning-evening. She asked that I come for a meet and greet at her home to go over details with her house alarm and care instructions. I kindly requested that we meet in a public place before going to her home and she agreed to it no problem and understood my safety concern; however she insisted a meet and greet in her home to go over details. I am meeting her at a school where her son will be in music lessons and then I will follow her to her house. Is this normal? Should I be concerned at all? This is my first booking so I want to be sure that I am as safe as possible! I have sent my location to my friends near me who can see where I am at all times, and they know where I will be headed in case something goes wrong. Her profile seems legit and her dog pictures match the descriptions. Her care instructions on Rover also match what she messaged me. Thanks!

When you are performing a service at the client's home, it is definitely customary and important to have a M&G at the location so that she can go over all the important details. You've taken good precautions notifying your friends, but if you can have a friend come with you who would stay outside while you conduct the M&G that should provide additional assurance.

There can be many problems with having a stranger enter a house for the first time to either walk a dog or do a drop-in. It is best to establish a relationship with it in the house, If you check the boards, you will see a few questions about dogs being aggressive and not letting the walker come in to perform their job.

Yes that definitely makes sense, I would be weary of having a stranger come to my house alone as well. I just wondering if her initial request to come to her house was sketchy or normal as I have read that we should hold M&Gs in a public location. Thank you for your feedback, that helps!

Kelly, I only do boarding and always have the client come to my home with the dog. So I am letting total strangers into my home and have never had a problem with it. Sometimes I am messaging with a woman and she'll show up with her husband or SO as well.

Rover does advise doing boarding M&Gs at a neutral location, but I am pretty sure they recommend visiting the location if you are doing traveling services. If you're staying overnight, don't you want to see the facilities. Plenty of sitters have had problems with unkempt homes. Better to get a look!

My first meet and greet was for a two night stay with a new kitten. I meet at their house so I could meet the fur baby, go over different things (kitten had a few hiding spot), how to use the lights since they are Alexa powered and shown the alarm code. I brought a friend with me for the meet and greet for safety reasons and they were fine with it.
