I spent the afternoon giving formal reasons for bookings that I had to decline, and I noticed my response rate decreased?

Today, I noticed the ability to look at my past requests and select a reason as to why I declined the request. I am not sure what this is for because I know we are also instructed to provide the pet parents with a written reason and that the reason we select from this list cannot be seen by the pet parents. However, after I went through and selected reasons as to why I declined each request, my response rate dropped from 100% to 90%.

The only thing I can think of is that I didn't respond to 2 of those requests (both from over a year ago -- they were not part of my 10 most recent) because both were a common Rover scam that some of you might have seen last year. It was the one where they are always moving into the area and for some reason have sent the dog before they get there. They supposedly will send you a check, and with that check, they want you to pay yourself and buy food, toys, etc for their dog who somehow found its way over to a new state/country on its own. But anyway, these messages were obviously scams, and I didn't know about the response rate back then, so I reported them and ignored them. I think reporting a message should count as a response, as the current response rate calculation metric could encourage sitters to respond to people with bad intentions, but that is beside the point.

I am wondering if selecting reasons why I declined these stays pushed them up in my queue, making Rover consider them to be part of my last 10 stays. Has anyone else had experience with this?

You should respond to every request even if you think it is a scam. Even responding with a reply for them to call you or asking them a question about their dog? Any response works as long a you type something to them.

As far as specifically why you drop 10%, that would only be the last 10 request. Look through your archives and make sure you responded to your last 10 requests. (Even duplicate requests need to have a response). If you still can not find, call Rover support and they can let you know who did not get a response.

Best of luck!

Everything you do or don't do on the platform affects your performance score, but honestly, performance scores mean little so don't get hung up on them. Read this article from the help section https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/arti…

I highly recommend you spend time in the help section as you have been asking lots of questions recently that can be answered there.
