Adult male peeing when he goes into a room without us, or I leave him alone?

Hello! My 9 year old male dog is peeing when he goes into another room, or when i try leaving him alone with my other dogs. He wears a belly band to try to help since he is not yet neutered. He does not have any accidents when i leave him alone in his crate while at work. I just got him a couple weeks ago. He was a stray and then an owner surrender once I found the owner. We take him out regularly for potty breaks, and he has no issues there. Its just random. Like if we are in one room chilling and then we get up, he will go to the other room real quick and fully pee, even though he knows we are about to go out and not to do it. Today, I tried integrating him with my other dogs to leave him out while i am at work.. and as soon as I went upstairs and closed the door, he decided to fully pee even though we were just out. Do we think this could be separation anxiety at all? I am honestly stumped since he does just fine in his crate by himself all day. I am open to any suggestions and help please

If you can allow him to eliminate by himself with no other dogs around that may help until he gets used to his pack.

The fact that your dog does not pee in a crate is to be expected. That’s one of the major benefits of crate training. Dogs do not want to soil where they’re going to sleep, so unless the dog really can’t hold it they generally won’t go and if crated might cleverly angle to eliminate just outside their crate. This dog may feel most at comfort while in his crate alone. So it may be a good idea to continue crating him while you’re at work

Since you just rescued him a couple weeks ago, I would suggest your senior (9 yrs.) dog is going through a Lot of Life Changes- his previous owner/family/home is gone, now he’s at a new place, with different humans, and other dogs, who he doesn't sound close to yet. In summary, it sounds like nerves are due to his peeing in the home. What you’re describing, (full bladder dump/emptying) differs greatly from marking (when a small stream is deposited, usually on furnishings to mark).

Until this dog acclimated and really feels at home, you likely have to do more: When you get up and go to another room, take him with you, even if you plan to go out, that may require placing a leash on him. Or crate him.
