Is it frequently happen that clients called off after they got my address to do a meet&greet?

Hi, everybody! I became a sitter two months ago and wonder if it frequently happens that clients say, "I no longer need a sitter," an hour before doing a meet&greet or just do not respond. I proudly show my place where their fur babies are going to stay, and this is the third time that clients called off or did not respond. I have a toddler with me, so I feel very uncomfortable after that happens.

I reported to Rover a client because they didn't show up for mee&greet, so I asked the client, "can't wait to see you and your fur baby. are you on the way?". The client said, "you are too far away." It turned out they were 45 min. to an hour away from me and didn't tell me how and why the client was looking at my area.

A recent one is they wanted to do a meet&greet about 2 hours later, so I gave them my address, and then 30 minutes after, they said, "(exact words)I will have to cancel not feeling to good.".

I understand it could be that clients have changed their plans or found better fit-sitters.
Is it frequently happen to other sitters? Am I being sensitive?

I sincerely appreciate your advice.

I schedule all meet and greets at the pet's home regardless of care needed. (I provide all services and some don't require the owner and their pet to come to my home anyway.) I have found it weeds out the scammers, looky-loos, other nefarious people, and bookings I decline. Protect your information!

Welcome to pet care. Make sure your service area setting isn't larger than 10 miles, actually 5 miles is better, so you don't show up in searches far away.

Thank you, Mr. Walt G.! My service area is 5 miles for walking but I don't see the tool to set for boarding, drop-in visits, or daycare.

I have never encountered this except when I have moved and not updated my location because I wanted to keep servicing my old area which was maybe 30 minutes away. Even still people will usually make the drive and show up on time, but I do let them know when they make the request that it’s farther than it seems.

I have some photos of my yard and should maybe even have more on my profile. Do you live in some kind of shared housing, ghetto or otherwise unappealing living situation that is different from what someone would expect? If so just explain it on your profile so there are no surprises.

Thank you for the comment. I have photos of my backyard, living room, etc. on my profile that all spaces the dog(s) will stay in my house. I have security cameras for the front door and driveway among my neighbors. I guess I'm just being too sensitive.

Hi, I have a toddler too and I didn't feel safe letting people in my house before booking so I do the meet & greet in a nearby park, just to be safe.
