Advice for unexpected Rover experience?

I recently used Rover for the first time. I opted for 3x daily drop-in visits for feeding and bathroom breaks for 3 full days and 2 partial days for 2 dogs. We didn't agree to house sitting. Through my doorbell's video I could see that my Rover sitter brought their personal laundry to do at my house. The sitter didn't ask to do their laundry at my house. I think I would have been OK with it if they had asked first and stayed to play with my dogs while their laundry was being done. Instead I can see (through the doorbell video) they didn't spend much more than 20 minutes at my house each visit.

I don't feel good about this experience and now my sitter has asked for a review and tip. I don't want to leave a negative review hurting potential future work and they did what I paid them to do. However, it feels like the sitter helped themselves to my house and are now asking to be rewarded. Any advice on what to do?

If you feel you do not want to leave a negative review, then don't. Did you ask the sitter why they brought their laundry? Maybe their washer broke or they had an accident? It is so much better to resolve this little problem directly, instead of leaving a negative review that you don't want to leave. It is not "normal" to bring laundry into clients' house but I feel you were very happy with the sitter otherwise. Just ask her first instead of calling Rover. There's nothing they can do, they will not reimburse you for a load of laundry I am afraid. Talk to the sitter, you don't know, maybe they were in a difficult situation and they needed your help. Good luck.

I would report the sitter call Customer Support [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]

Report the sitter.

Asking for a tip? I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my life, except for the posting here recently about one sitter who practically demanded an extra 20%. However, I do believe sitters providing excellent service should be tipped (voluntarily), much in the same way people tip their groomers, the valet who parks your car, the person who does your nails, etc. I'm not sure why people think that dogsitters don't fall into the same category as babysitters, who customarily receive tips and significantly more per hour than dogsitters.

Greetings, The average hourly rate for a babysitter nationally is $20.57 for one child and $23.25 for two kids. I haven't met a babysitter who makes significantly more per hour than dogsitters, my fee as a dogsitter is $35 for a 30 minute walk. I have yet to hear of any babysitter earning $70/hour

You’re very fortunate if you can schedule 2 $35 walks/hr. Many walkers rates are closer to $20 & their time is consumed by coming/going so they can only do 1/hr. Most bookings on rover are for Boarding. Boarding rates vary, but most are less than $100 for 24 hrs=$4/hr. Even $200 (rare!)= $8/hr.
