I have had a few clients whose dogs have trouble walking away from the home or wanting to walk in the direction of the home. It has made it difficult for me to walk them. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!
Ideally, during a meet and greet, discuss if the dog has this tendency and ask the owner what they do or encourage others to do. If it’s happening while you’re on the dog walk, you could send a text message to the owner letting them know what’s happening. Often dogs who will not want to walk away from home if you carry them away, Will walk towards home. Other motivators to try to get dogs interested in walking including using squeaky toys and/or owner preapproved treats.
