Red flag request/client scam request?

I'm brand new to Rover, and just got my first request, but I feel like there are a bunch of red flags...

  1. Someone saying they are looking for a sitter for their uncle who is relocating from abroad to my local area.
  2. Gave me a number (not the secure number Rover generates) to text the uncle.
  3. Stated a weekly pay that is higher than what Rover is calculating for the service type they are requesting.
  4. The account was created just today, which is the same day I got the request.
  5. The booking is only for one dog, but from the client account, it looks like it is two dogs.

Am I being paranoid? Or are these all red flags when looking at a client request? They are requesting for a time that I'm not typically available, so it would be an easy way for me to quickly respond but decline the request. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

You're correct in seeing red flags!! Sorry to say it is highly likely to be a scam. Listen to your intuition and don't get discouraged! Once you have had a couple bookings under your belt you'll recognize desirable booking requests versus those not worth your time. Please be safe!

Aha, it looks like at least one other person thought the account looked suspicious. The client account has already been flagged and de-activated ๐Ÿ˜•

Definitely, your numbers 1-3 are indicative of scammers.

However, same-day registration is not unusual. at all. Sometimes, people will turn to Rover almost as a last resort when their usual sitter is not available and they have to find someone fast.

Also, if you've been here awhile, you'll find many postings about the incorrect number of pets, not all pets listed, etc. Sometimes people can't figure out how to list more than one animal and others try to scam you by not listing all their pets that would incur additional charges. There are a couple of approaches once you find out there are more pets. Tell them that they have to list all pets due to Rover's "guarantee"and offer to help or have them contact Rover if they're genuinely having problems. In your case, you saw more pets in the profile, but often sitters don't find out until they do a M&G. Then you definitely put a hold on confirming until the pets are all listed.
