commented question What to say to client when they forget to pay?

In addition to politely telling them they need to finalize the booking before we can provide services, (by paying Rover) I also tell them Rover notifies us when they've paid. Because they might be wondering: How will the sitter know I paid?

Claire, so happy to hear you fixed the situation for your pup since you first posted! Ana

commented answer Can I crate my dog day?

Claire, but there are other options besides you or the pound. Just saying.

commented answer Can I crate my dog day?

Not ok -- even for a dog that's old and sick and sits on the couch all day.

commented answer Can I crate my dog day?

Hey, you all have heard about GetYourPet.com right?, the service that connects people who need to re-home their dog or cat with people who want to adopt. (Rover.com is a partner).

answered a question Can I crate my dog day?

I think as contractors for rover.com our level of care should be above and beyond what they'd get at a kennel or at a vet's kennel. So kenneled all day except for the midday walk doesn't cut it. Don't leave him outside and don't leave him in a crate for more than 4 hours during the day. Daycare or drop-ins.

answered a question Would it be okay for me to ask a client to leave a review for my service?

Don't worry --it is not rude at all.

I usually say something like: Hi Mary, I was wondering if you would leave a review of Kitty's stay when you have some time. Thank you very much, we really appreciate it.

answered a question Can you help me stop my dog biting, and bossing me around?

It is obvious you care for your dog greatly! Please do not ever assume a submissive role with him. His bossiness is him being dominant. Please do not allow this. Make sure he knows that you are the pack leader -- if you show him you are unwilling to be pack leader, he will continue to take that role.

commented question Will I still get dog boarding if I can only give potty breaks every 4-8 hours?

During the day a dog of any age should not be crated for more than 4 hours at a time, and for puppies one hour for each month of age -- so one hour for a one-month old, etc.

answered a question How does the process work?

Welcome Stephanie. We do not do background checks on prospective clients. However we do take precautions. After the initial texts and/or phone conversations we set up a Meet & Greet to evaluate the pet and owner. This may be done in a public park with a follow-up Meet & Greet at your place if you will provide service at home or at the owner's place if you will provide traveling services. As a precaution you may want to have someone with you. And never accept a booking if you feel uncomfortable with either the dog or the owner. All the best!

answered a question Is it possible to have our dog and cat watched together?

Yes Jennifer you can have both your cat and dog watched together. To set up your cat's profile, choose "cat" as the breed.

answered a question I am wondering when I will get paid from my last visit?

Hi Steven, Rover will make your payment available to you two days after the stay ends. Then you have to go into the Payments section in your Rover account and transfer the payment to your Paypal account.

I agree with your advice.

answered a question Was there ever an individual who contacted you outside of your service area? And asked for your cellphone number?

Hi Joanne, you do not have to give her your cell phone number. And it seems reasonable to arrange a Meet & Greet at your house even if she lives in NY. The M&G is usually held where the service will take place. She needs boarding so she will want to see your house. Close off rooms that you don't want to give access. Hope this helps!

answered a question Is it possible to take outdoor pets only?

No, absolutely not.

answered a question What happens if my dog dies while in care of Rover sitter?

We are professionals and can handle the death of an animal in our care. If it would make you more comfortable, you could choose a sitter who has senior dog experience.

commented answer Newbie here hoping to save myself some uh-oh moments, what advice do you have?

I agree. The first thing we do when a dog is dropped off is make sure the collar fits properly. So many dogs get dropped off wearing their collar like a necklace.

answered a question Newbie to dog boarding- any advice?

At our house each dog has their own cubby for their belongings with a nametag.

answered a question Did raising your rates hurt your bookings?

No, not at all. I think most people believe you get what you pay for.

commented answer How do you get repeat clients to review recent stays without annoying them?

Great idea Walt. Thanks, I just tried it.

answered a question What is a reasonable price to ask for second and third dogs in the same family?
