I Express my girl's glands regularly and at times I still smell a metallic smell on her breath. Is there something else I need to do?

commented answer How do I get a tick off my dog?

Not recommended to "warn" the tick that something is happening. Go straight for the tweezers or get a tick twister tool to remove it. The tick can attempt to embed further or put more toxin in pup.

commented answer My 6 month puppy nips in response to correction. Is this aggression?

I wouldn't use a collar to pull them down as it could hurt them and cause them to pull harder against it. Can also encourage them to go against the command. Take time, be calm/consistent.

answered a question Has anyone trained a potty-trained dog to use a pee pad while they are away?

I would be hesitant to use potty pads consistently as it may encourage him to use them instead of go outside. If there's someone available to let him out when you're gone, I say that's a much better option.

answered a question Why doesn't my dog show interest in anything?

My Spitz was lost when we brought him in. We didn't find his family and slowly built a bond. I asked God for a dog telling him He could bring one to the door if He wanted!

Buddy would look to me for reassurance when he was tense, and we built a close relationship. He was never one to cuddle, yet he learned he could trust me. He became the caretaker of other animals in our home. If we didn't see that someone wanted outside, he would come get me. He liked fresh filtered water and would let me know when the bowl needed filled or changed to his liking. He was hesitant of the dog he saw in the metal water bowl and would sneak up on it to get a drink!

No matter the personality, they learn to trust and love you in their own way. Just be calm, patient, and consistent.

commented answer How do I help new puppy who hates kenneling/being confined and defecates every time?

Yes, that's what I would do. If you have found something that she likes to eat, play, do, use that near the crate. Positive experiences including her crate will help her see it's a good place.

asked a question Can I share my Rover promo link on my facebook page?

My page is geared for private clients, so want to make sure this is not against the TOS.

answered a question Owner asks: How do I handle neighbor reporting abuse by the dogsitter?

Unless it would be dangerous to confront this sitter, I would take the neighbor or another trusted person with me and talk to him and his mother asking for details/explanation. After all, he did admit to "letting into" your puppy for digging. I wouldn't use this sitter again unless I found that the neighbor was exaggerating or misunderstood. Hearing yelling and yelping would definitely concern me.

If this is a Rover sitter, please report it to them.

answered a question Is it appropriate to ask my dog sitter her last name?

Definitely good to ask questions including last name. I encourage open communication; it builds trust and a good relationship.

answered a question Got a microchip for my dog. She is lost how do I track her?

So sorry your dog is missing. If the device you're using on your dog is a tracking device or your dog has a microchip (chip) embedded, you'll want to contact the company where it was purchased. The microchip company will list your dog as missing/lost.

If your dog has a tracking/GPS device, you'll want to log into their website or app on your phone or computer and see where your dog was last tracked.

And yes, as said in the other comment here, go to shelters, neighbors, local businesses in your neighborhood, everywhere and post flyers with a picture and description of your dog letting everyone know your dog is missing.

Sure hope you have already been reunited. Saying a prayer ...

answered a question Is the drop ins the same for different animals like birds or Guinea Pigs?

We can edit the amount as needed when setting up the booking. There's not a way to list them separately which would be nice. As said above, the Rover guarantee only covers cats and dogs, so you would need your own pet sitter insurance to cover in case the animal needs Vet care.

commented answer If a request comes into me after 11pm (which I have set up as a do not disturb time till 6am) does it count against my response time? I responded at 6am as soon as I saw it?

Thank you.

answered a question How can I get Rover.com to pay me?

In your account under payments, select to withdraw payment. Be sure that PayPal is set up on your account in order to transfer the payment.

How do we set quiet hours? I just turn off notification sounds, yet still get them.

answered a question Is it mandatory to sleep over at a place that you are in-home petsitting every night?

I agree with talking to the client. Some sitters provide late night and morning visits, as well as daytime care without spending the night. Make services clear and allow clients to do the same.

commented answer $20 off Coupon?

This has been a while, yet I don't see an answer to your question. You can give the coupon codes through email, text, or directly through Rover when booking the service.

answered a question How do I stop my dog from stopping on walks?

I would use treats and enthusiasm. Only give a treat when the pup gives any indication of doing what they are asked. Movement forward or paying attention to me --- get a treat and praise. As they walk give treats, too. It may be especially helpful to give small bites of a treat prior to getting to the place where they stop and lay down. It might encourage them to keep going.

answered a question Best Practices for Apartment Boarding?

In my years of boarding, there was only one person who did not have their dog stay due to the house not being spotless. I could tell by his attitude, looking around, and concern over keeping his white dog clean, that it wouldn't be a fit.

As long as you do your best, most people are pretty forgiving when it comes to that sort of thing. Things don't have to be perfect for them to know that their pet will be comfortable and well cared for. Hearing your concern over it is a good sign that your place is presentable most of the time. ☺

commented answer How can I confront an owner about how she treats her dogs in front of me?

I don't see where she got that you were concerned about a review. That isn't anywhere in your post. I would definitely say something to the woman before reporting her (as you did); If she wasn't open to changing, then yes report her. What an awful experience. You did what you could at the time.

answered a question Do you require kennels/crates?

When I cared for dogs in my home I did require a crate if I didn't have enough or the size needed for a guest. The primary reason for requiring a crate per dog was not only due to insurance requirements but also in case animals needed to be transported in an emergency.

If you don't have an area where you can separate unsupervised dogs, crates are a great option when you happen to need to leave.

commented answer Has anyone accepted a sitting job in a hotel? How do you meet the family ahead of time and what do you charge?

The sit went beautifully tonight. They added me to the hotel reservation so the hotel knew I was there. Wonderful family including the dogs! They are appreciative of me, thankful to be able to have their dogs along, and grateful to be able to go out. I'm so glad I did this. I'm going to miss them.

commented answer Am I responsible for cleaning up accidents that happened before I get there?

Pet sitting animals includes housekeeping. ;)

answered a question Am I responsible for cleaning up accidents that happened before I get there?

It is possible that the family was in a hurry and didn't see the mess upstairs. Maybe they called the pup downstairs, closed the gate and left. I would not give up crate training and leave my puppy on his own to make a mess, yet there may be an explanation as to the mess upstairs. If that's the case and I as a sitter didn't clean it up, I would most likely be blamed.

I like the idea of gently mentioning it in your update. It may encourage the family to continue crate training. Puppies with no boundaries aren't nearly as much fun.

I'm glad to hear you all say you would clean it up. It's what we do. Giving the benefit of the doubt is a good policy, too.

Thank you all. I went with my multiple pet rate for overnights. The person thinks it's a good idea to meet first as well, so we're planning on meeting when they get here Saturday afternoon. Thank you again.
