answered a question Traveling with the dog for walks?

I would at least add in a cost for the price of gas to get to the dog park and back. If this is a house-sitting booking, I would probably just add the cost of gas and not worry about it. Otherwise, I would charge an hourly fee.

answered a question Do you bring your own poop bags for visits and stays?

I always keep a roll of poop bags in my car. I see it as a business expense. If you get the packs of 6 or 12 rolls, they're really quite cheap. In my neighborhood, my city provides them in the local parks as an incentive for people to pick up after their dogs. For my first client, I simply took 1-2 of the free poop bags at a time, so I always had one with me. Some owners just don't pick up after their dogs, so they don't think about providing the bags for a sitter/walker.

The payment is made during the request/booking process. See the above link for Rover's official answer.

answered a question Can I make business cards off of another site? Or do I have to use the Rover.com ones?

Here's some information I gathered from the Terms of Service:

  • "A Pet Care Service Provider may promote his/her promotion code on bona fide social networking platforms that are not primarily aimed at coupon or discount distribution; provided that the Pet Care Service Provider complies with all terms and conditions of such social networking platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Craigslist, NextDoor, Google+). "
  • "Pet Care Service Providers acknowledge they are solely responsible for any liabilities arising from their acts or omissions in connection with their creation, marketing, or issuance of a promotion code and/or custom URL"
  • "Pet Care Service Providers may affix the promotion code only on printed materials purchased through the Rover Print Store."

The last one I listed there leads me to believe that you can have your own business cards, but you can only include your promo code if you get them from Rover. If you get your business cards printed by a third party, I would avoid using the Rover name or logo (since it's trademarked, that could get you in some legal trouble).

I'm currently weighing my options for business cards as well. I'm not crazy about the design of the cards Rover offers, but I want to be able to put my Rover profile address and my promo code on them, so I'll probably end up getting them through Rover. The last thing I want is to get sued for trademark/copyright infringement, ya know?

commented answer Creative advertising?

Thank you so much, that sounds like great advice.

asked a question Creative advertising?

I'm new to Rover (yay!) and I need some advice about how to start building my clientele. I've only ever walked my own or friends' dogs, never for money, so I'm starting from scratch here. So far, I've posted my Rover info on Facebook and Craigslist. My area has a LARGE senior citizen population, and I'm sure there must be a way to target that demographic. My mom lives in a 55+ community, so maybe leaving some business cards in their pool house/center would be worth a shot? Any other ideas?
